So what exactly is coaching?

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as:

“Partnering with clients in a thought- provoking and creative process, that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” ICF

Although both coaching and psychotherapy use knowledge of human behavior, motivation, behavioral change and interactive communication techniques. There are major differences in their goals, focus and level of professional responsibility. Coaches will never ask WHY? 

Coaching uses some techniques that may also be used in a therapeutic setting (such as teaching cognitive skills, reflecting, affirming, mindfulness training and breath work), but coaching is NOT a therapy

The focus of coaching is about forward movement. The development and implementation of strategies to reach client-identified goals, of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction. Coaching may address specific personal projects, life balance, job performance and satisfaction, or general conditions in the client’s life, health, relationships. Coaching utilises personal and professional strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, motivational techniques, goal setting and other supportive techniques.

With coaching, the client sets the agenda and the success of the enterprise depends on the client’s willingness to take risks and try new approaches. The relationship is designed to be more in- directive, thought- provoking and challenging. You can count on us to be honest and straightforward, asking powerful questions and using challenging techniques to move you forward. 

You are expected to put in the hard work, be honest with yourself and us and evaluate your progress. If or when coaching is not working as you wish, you should immediately inform us so together we can both take steps to correct the problem.
